Okay, so I may have a jar hoarding problem. Maybe its the art teacher in me that feels the need to save random trash, or maybe I’m just trying to save the planet, but I love glass jars. I save pasta sauce jars, pickle jars, baby food jars (they’re so cute!), and I recently came across glass yogurt jars. (I may have bought the yogurt just to have the jar, but the yogurt turned out to be delicious).

I love the shape of these jars and the label comes off easily too.

It is so easy to transform these little jars. All you need is:

  • Small glass jars – these yogurt jars were slightly larger than baby food jars.
  • Rope, twine, or hemp cord to wrap around jar
  • Hot glue gun (like this one)

Start by putting a dab of hot glue at the top of the jar, just under the lid. Then start wrapping your rope around the jar, putting more hot glue onto the jar every few wrap-arounds.

Keep the glue on just one side of the jar. No need to smother the whole jar in glue.

Keep wrapping until you reach just above the bottom of the jar. I wanted to be able to see through a little of the bottom so I could put in some decorative sand or stone at the bottom. I ended my rope on the same side of the jar as I started it, so that I can make that the back of the jar and not see the ends of the rope when it is displayed.

Three finished jars

Before I put in soil, I filled the bottom of the jar with decorative ground up stone, just enough so that you can see it. Then fill it with soil and your favorite mini succulents!

Just a bit of ground up decorative stone at the bottom
DONE!

Display wherever your heart desires! Succulents are easy to take care of. They thrive on neglect and will forgive you for not watering them!

  1. I love these! I also have a ridiculous jar hoard. I kept all my glass baby jars, and all the pickle and olive jars. I’m excited to see what else I can do with them!

  2. Love your tutorial. So simple and cute! Would make nice gifts.
I too love these little glass jars, now I have an excuse to collect some .
